My knowledge of the game is not very good, so please forgive me if I make errors in my understanding of the rules.
Final move of game (54?), a 5 & 4 played. Without the 5's ability, this would result in no movement. However, immediately upon playing the 4, the game resolved the trick, moving us one space (into a forest token). Sorry, but I believe you are wrong. If the special ability of the 5 was not used (which should be possible because of the "may" in the ability) then neither card would have been ignored, and the tracker would not have moved at all.

FYI, this is not a tug-of-war. Movement values cannot subtract each other.
