The physical game has 5 discs, double sided, to use for selecting which 4 goals will be in play. When using these, the rule book says:
Variable Goals: Instead of using the 4 basic goals (that are printed on the game board), shuffle the goal tokens, take 4 at random, and place them on top of the basic goals in any order."
But, the BGA implementation seems to have grouped these 10 goals AND the original 4 printed goals into a large pool of 14 total goals, and chooses 4 from those 14.
This can result in a game that is pretty much a joke, since those 4 printed goals are absurdly easy and will almost always occur in the course of typical game actions, requiring no extra effort or planning or sacrificing other plays that might otherwise be better plays. Those printed goals are meant to be beginner goals.
In this particular game, 2 of the goals were from among the 4 original printed goals: Have 2 or more wild Mantas, and, have 3 or more scoring locations in your scoring pile.
In this game, I triggered end game in NINE turns without even playing my Matrona once. I had three total cards in the scoring pile. This is not how the game was intended with variable goals. (And, as noted, not how the rule book is written).
