Use case: a premium user makes a game for IRL friends and they meet on video chat for a gaming session. They don't finish the game but want to save it for their next session.

Suggested implementation: this could be a premium feature, and require unanimous consent. This way it won't be abused and still serves its purpose.

Reasoning: This site is great for allowing me to connect with my IRL friends and play games, and these games are much more meaningful to me than games with strangers. We started a Puerto Rico game and enjoyed it and now we are basically fighting the clock and reminding each other to play because we have lives and can't always keep up outside of our planned sessions.

Note: the ability to switch to a turn-based game isn't sufficient. This is what I meant to explain in my 'reasoning' section above.

Interesting. I'd never tried the "switch to turn-based" option before, so I tested it on a game of Thermopyles and apparently it got set it to "3 moves per day" (game options say that, but on the game page it says "undefined"). I wonder if better control of this option, including switching to training mode, would work instead of pausing.

@Spiegel428 Interesting point about the timing settings after switching to turn-based. As for the game I described, the game host was a premium member, and my understanding was that gave him the option to choose timing. Still he chose 2 days for one move (which I think is the slowest) and that was not sufficient for our needs. It led to the situation I described above.

I don't see the logic behind making this a premium-only feature.

I don't see any reason why "the ability to switch to a turn-based game isn't sufficient."

kaPen15 explains: "2 days for one move (which I think is the slowest) and that was not sufficient for our needs.", so this is the real problem. Playing no time-limit with friends was put off, and you can vote here to bring it back: boardgamearena.com/bug?id=78071

@cigma: it is insufficient because you usually want to keep the real-time setting (e.g. Arena), but just need a quick pause.

Which is why no time limit games was the best solution. You could play it real time when ever you as a group wanted. Go and vote for the no time limit bug to help the cause
